deltaZERO

PARADISO

2007-2009

A mixed residential and administrative building, which represents our design philosophy; it was designed as the headquarters of deltaZERO and the residence of its founders.

The building is a concentrate of technology, applied to obtain a completely glazed block without external solar protection, without emissions into the atmosphere and such as to cover the energy needs for heating and hot water.

TYPE

Residential-administrative building, 7 floors + garage, new building.

INSPIRATION

The credo of "deltaZERO": transparency, flexibility, technology, purity.

THEME

The transparent zero-emission building - integration of energy production systems in the project.

OBJECTIVE

Linear design, brightness, the landscape "enters".

DISTRIBUTION

The upstream vertical connection block acts as the bracing structure of the entire building. Each floor can be divided into two separate units. The spaces can be divided according to the user's needs.

TECHNOLOGY

Reversible geothermal pump with 2.5 km of probes up to 130 m deep. Solar collectors integrated in the south façade for domestic hot water production and heating.
Continuous ventilation system with ground collector, heat recovery, filtration and air ionisation.
Photovoltaic system integrated in the roof. Partial activation of the floors by air to stabilise the indoor climate.
LED lighting of common areas. Home automation.

NEW

Development and introduction of  the "flexible co-ownership". New home automation interface based on deltaZERO concept and design.

SPECIAL

Use of super insulating vacuum-panels in order to respect the height of the stainless steel strip of 40 cm on all floors.

deltaZERO is a perfectly smooth rectangular parallelepiped, a Kaaba characterised by an envelope made entirely of glass. The building, which houses apartments and offices, is set in a densely built-up residential area and stands out clearly from the urban fabric in front of it due to its completely different way of conceiving the interior-exterior relationship and the principles of living in the city. The deltaZERO building was designed to be the headquarters of our architect’s office and our home together.
deltaZERO, a technologically advanced and unique building in its context, is:
• transparent on three sides to enjoy the view of the lake and the city while feeling part of the pulse of life outside;
• ecological, designed and built in such a way as to ensure the coverage of the energy needs necessary for the comfort of the building's inhabitants and at the same producing no harmful emissions in the atmosphere;
• linear, characterised by a simple design as a shell of multiple complex functions;
• innovative, designed as a concrete contribution to the city of the near future.
In order to guarantee maximum flexibility, simple maintenance and easy modification of the technological systems over time, all the pipes and ducts for water, air and electricity have been inserted in a vertical technical compartment and the water and electricity distribution in the apartments and offices takes place inside the raised technical floor.
The building envelope is completely made of glass and stainless steel, eternal materials that do not need any maintenance.
The building uses solar energy, both on the roof thanks to the insertion of photovoltaic cells, and through the solar thermal collectors integrated in the south facade that in the intermediate season completely cover the water needs for sanitary and heating use.
A reversible thermopump connected to the geothermal probe network guarantees heat production in the winter period when the heat production by the solar thermal collectors is not sufficient to cover the demand, both for sanitary and heating needs.
In the summer period, on the other hand, the thermopump produces cold water for cooling the building. The necessary cooling of the water is in fact obtained with minimum costs through the transfer of heat to the ground through the same geothermal probes.
Inside, a continuous ventilation system ensures optimal environmental comfort in every season.
The fresh air to be introduced into the building, taken through special slits inserted in the mail block, is pre-cooled in summer and pre-heated in winter thanks to the ground collector, made up of a series of pipes that wind through the ground, favouring the air-to-ground heat exchange.
Result: the total heating and cooling needs of the building are covered by solar energy (about 27,000 kWh per year).
